BAIC BJEV Makes First ‘Huawei Inside’ Smart NEV Debut
Beijing Automotive Group’s new energy vehicle branch has introduced the first vehicle with the trademark ‘Huawei Inside,’ referring to the Chinese telecoms giant’s autonomous driving software.
According to Yicai Global, the HI version of automobile manufacturer BAIC BJEV’s ArcFox Alpha S is the first mass-produced vehicle to bear the emblem.
This is not Huawei’s first automobile collaboration, but the above-mentioned model is the first to integrate its smart driving technologies, with the car manufacturing partner handling the design, manufacture, and sales.
Huawei has stated numerous times that it will not manufacture its own vehicles. According to Yu Chengdong, chief executive of the Shenzhen-based firm’s automotive unit, the HI version involves one of the commercial collaboration approaches that Huawei is pursuing to join the automobile market while not participating in manufacturing.
According to Yu, BAIC BJEV is in control of ArcFox Alpha S HI’s main sales channels, despite the fact that the product may also be found in some Huawei retail outlets.
Aside from BAIC, two other Chinese automakers, Chang’an Auto and GAC Group, are developing smart vehicles using Huawei software. A redesigned version of Chang’an Auto’s Avita brand was introduced last November, with reservations slated to open in the second quarter of this year. GAC’s level-four self-driving car, developed in conjunction with Huawei, is expected to enter mass production in 2024.
The BAIC BJEV sedan is available in two configurations, each priced at CNY397,900 (USD59,700). In China, the high-end version competes in the same sector as Tesla and Nio.
